5/10 ( Fri): Select a topic for the persuasive speech; do research to support your position and illustrate your perspective on the issue; do research on your opponents’ reason to disagree with your viewpoint; prepare for a 5-questioned survey and bring it in on May 15 ( Wed.).

Homework: Create a survey to identify target audience for your speech; continue research and gather materials (pp. 118-136).

5/15( Wed.): Complete peers’ pre-speech surveys; continue research to collect evidence about the topic; prepare bibliography for the sources you will use to help you write the speech; read and discuss reasoning ( pp. 340-344) .

5/16 (Thur.): Write an outline for your speech (pp. 206-210); discuss rhetorical appeals ( pp. 348-351)

5/17 (Fri.): Compose the speech by adding evidence, reasoning and rhetorical appeals ( pp. 140-159); read and discuss how to deliver a speech effectively ( pp. 238-260)

Homework Assignment: Complete the persuasive speech (use resources from chapters 9 & 10) by organizing your ideas into a distinctive beginning, body and ending ; create a speaking outline ( pp 213-216, ch.11)

Persuasive Speech delivery will begin on May 22 through May May 24 by lottery. Delivering your speech from memory will gain you a higher grade but you can also use a speaking outline if you have trouble memorizing the speech.

5/22 (Wed.): Persuasive Speech delivery; Speaking on Special Occasions introduction ( pp. 358; types of Special Occasions speeches); decide on an occasion you will write a speech for.

5/23 (Thru): Persuasive Speech delivery; study sample speeches for special occasions ( pp 363-367); draft  your own speech for a special occasion;

5/ 24 (Fri.): Persuasive Speech delivery; discuss rhetorical appeals and use of language; discuss Speech Delivery (using the delivery rubric)

Homework Assignment: Revise your final Occasion Speech. Work on memorization.

Special Occasions Speech delivery will begin on May 29 through May 31. 

5/29 (Wed.) Special Occasions Speech delivery; discuss delivery techniques and language.

5/30 (Thur.) Special Occasions Speech delivery; discuss delivery and rhetorical appeals

5/31 (Fri): Special Occasions Speech delivery; complete a course reflection by responding to a set of provided prompts
